LAHORE: A video has gone viral on social media in which Pakistan newbie film actress Nisha Malik, who committed suicide last week, can be seen enjoying light moments with her brother. Nisha, whose debut film was slated to be released on Eid ul Azha, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at her Lahore's residence on Saturday, police said. According to her family, Nisha Malik committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. “Maalik” ban stirs debate on freedom of expression KARACHI: A sudden ban on Urdu feature film “Maalik” by the federal government, three weeks after its nationwide release, has stirred a new debate on freedom of expression on social media. “Maalik”, the film produced, penned and directed by “Dhuwan” famed Asher Azeem Gill, has been declared as “uncertified” in the whole of Pakistan with immediate effect, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage yesterday. “Maalik” banned across country No reason has been specified for the unusual decision, but the film has been accused by some quarters of promoting ethnic racism and showing politicians in bad light. Twitter Blocks 125,000 Accounts in ‘Terrorist Content’ Crackdown WASHINGTON: Twitter said Friday it suspended more than 125,000 accounts, most of them linked to the Islamic State group, as part of increased efforts to eradicate “terrorist content” on the popular messaging platform. The accounts frozen since mid-2015 were targeted “for threatening or promoting terrorist acts,” said Twitter, which is under pressure from governments to act but is also keen not to be seen as effectively censoring free speech. “Like most people around the world, we are horrified by the atrocities perpetrated by extremist groups,” Twitter said on its policy blog.
