SC roster triggers debate on date of Panama case verdict

ISLAMABAD: The new schedule of Supreme Court judges for the week starting on July 31 has broached a debate as to when the much-awaited verdict of Panama Papers case will be announced. According to the roster, two out of the three judges – which heard the case – will not be available in Islamabad till 11th August. Justice Ijaz-Ul-Ahsan is going on leave from next week and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh will be hearing cases in Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry from Monday, whereas Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will be hearing other cases in Islamabad. Panama Papers JIT to submit final report before SC today ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case will submit its final report to the special bench of Supreme Court (SC) today (July 10) as the term designated by the apex court for the JIT to complete the investigations has come to a close. The special implementation bench of the SC had formed the JIT to probe Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s alleged offshore wealth and charges of money laundering against the Sharif family. Earlier on Saturday, Nawaz Sharif held an advisory meeting with federal ministers and law experts to ponder over the course to be taken after the JIT submits its report on the findings of the Panama leaks investigations. Forces kill 18 terrorists in Karachi after Sehwan attack

KARACHI: At least 18 terrorists were killed in two separate encounters with Rangers in Karachi Friday morning. The action came a day after a deadly suicide attack killed more than 70 people including 20 children at the shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan city of Sindh. In the first incident, seven terrorists were killed near Kathor on Superhighway near Karachi, according to Ranger’s spokesman. The encounter occurred when terrorists attacked Rangers convoy that was returning to Karachi after rescue work at Sehwan. One Rangers official was also injured in the clash. In another encounter, 11 terrorists were killed during a search operation in Manghopir area. Two Rangers personnel were injured in the raid. Sindh governor Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui passes away

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui Wednesday passed away at the age of 78, Samaa reported. According to our correspondent, following chest pain, Siddiqui was taken to South City Hospital, where he breathed his last. The 31st governor of Sindh had taken oath on November 11, 2016 replacing Dr Ishratul Ebad. He was admitted to hospital on the same day. He got discharged on December 15 from the hospital after intensive care unit (ICU) was set up in the Governor House. Raheel Sharif ‘sets three conditions’ to become head of Islamic military alliance

KARACHI: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has put forth three conditions to assume the command of a 39-nation Islamic military alliance, a retired army officer claimed. Former Pakistan army officer Lt-Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib told Samaa that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given approval after Saudi authorities expressed their desire to appoint General (retd) Raheel as the chief of the military alliance. The prime minister, Lt-Gen Amjad said, told Saudi government that it would be an honour for the country. Two security personnel killed in Karachi gun attack

KARACHI: Unknown gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on a security vehicle in Karachi on Tuesday, killing two security personnel The gun attack took place near Parking Plaza in Saddar. According to police, unidentified armed men riding motorcycles targeted two personnel of a sensitive agency near Saddar Parking Plaza and escaped. The injured personnel were rushed to hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds. Karachi: Chinese citizen hurt in roadside blast

KARACHI: A Chinese citizen, his gunman and driver were injured on Monday when a blast hit their van on outskirts of Karachi, Samaa reported. According to our correspondent, the vehicle was targeted on the National Highway near Gulshan-e-Hadeed. “It was a remote controlled explosion that occurred on the roadside. Sindh govt announces summer vacations for schools

KARACHI: Sindh government announced summer vacations for schools all over the province, effective immediately. School are to remain closed till July 24 until further notice. Sindh Secretary for Education Fazlullah Pechuho confirmed the announcement, saying the decision was taken after discussion with the provincial Minister for Education Nisar Khuhro. The provincial ministry for education said the decision was taken keeping in view the rising temperatures all over the province. PM announces mega projects in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday announced multibillion rupee development projects for Dera Ismail Khan city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Samaa reported. Addressing a large public meeting, organized by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, the PM criticized his opponents and vowed to make ‘new Pakistan’ with backing of JUI-F. “Those who love the politics of sin-ins have failed to make even a new KPK, how will they make a new Pakistan,” the PM said. The PM announced mega uplift projects for the DI Khan district, including an agriculture university and Rs.770 million gas project. Nawaz Sharif also announced to release 50 crore development fund for the district, directing PIA and CAA authorities to immediately ensure international flight operation from the Dera Ismail Khan airport. PM deplores Abbottabad murder as inhuman, un-Islamic

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday denounced the murder of a 16-year-old girl in Abbottabad as “inhuman and un-Islamic”. The victim, identified as Ambreen, a resident of Abbottabad district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was drugged before being strangled to death while her body was set ablaze in a van. The gruesome murder was ordered by a 16-member jirga on charges of helping another girl, Saima, elope. The deceased’s mother was also part of the jirga. “Such a barbaric act is not only unislamic but also inhuman. Acceptance of such acts in society was unacceptable.,” a statement by PM Sharif said.
