Supreme Court to announce Panama verdict today

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will announce its verdict in Panama Papers case at 11:30 a.m. today (Friday). A three-member implementation bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan reserved its judgement in the case on 21st of this month. According to the cause list issued by the Supreme Court, the decision of the Panama Papers case will be announced by a larger bench comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan. It is the same bench, which heard the Panama Papers case and ordered formation of a Joint Investigation Team with majority decision on 20th April to further probe the matter. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Wednesday attended National Assembly session and presented his party’s stance on Panama Papers investigation, Samaa reported. Khan, while addressing the house, also cleared his position on holding an alleged offshore company. Calling upon the prime minister to present himself of accountability and an end to corruption in Pakistan, Khan urged the government to ensure a transparent investigation into offshore assets of Sharif Family. He described PM’s speech as ‘disappointing’, saying that the opposition has a democratic right to come out on streets, if the government continued its inaction. PM announces mega projects in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday announced multibillion rupee development projects for Dera Ismail Khan city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Samaa reported. Addressing a large public meeting, organized by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, the PM criticized his opponents and vowed to make ‘new Pakistan’ with backing of JUI-F. “Those who love the politics of sin-ins have failed to make even a new KPK, how will they make a new Pakistan,” the PM said. The PM announced mega uplift projects for the DI Khan district, including an agriculture university and Rs.770 million gas project. Nawaz Sharif also announced to release 50 crore development fund for the district, directing PIA and CAA authorities to immediately ensure international flight operation from the Dera Ismail Khan airport. No allegation on me in Panama Papers LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday affirmed that Panama Papers do not feature his name as owner of offshore companies. He underscored need for an independent commission for investigation, Samaa reported. The PM said this while speaking to reporters in London before leaving for Pakistan. The PM stayed for a week in London where he underwent heart checkup. But there were reports in Pakistan that political leaders will hold secret meetings in the UK capital. “Thank God, I had my checkup, I’m all right now and leaving for Pakistan,” the PM said while replying to a question about his health. Notices issued to Sharif family LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his five family members in a case pertaining to their offshore assets exposed in Panama Papers, Samaa reported. According to our correspondent, the notices were issued to PM Nawaz Sharif, his brother Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, wife Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif, son Hussain Nawaz Sharif and two other family members. The Sharif Family has been ordered to file response by April 18. The court issued notices while hearing a petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffri. The hidden wealth of some of the world’s most prominent leaders, politicians and celebrities has been revealed by Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca. It has leaked 11 million documents from one of the world's most secretive companies. Though there is nothing unlawful about using offshore companies, the files raise fundamental questions about the ethics of such tax havens – and the revelations are likely to provoke urgent calls for reforms of a system that critics say is arcane and open to abuse. Journalists from more than 80 countries have been reviewing 11.5m leaked files. They show how Mossack Fonseca has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax. PM announces Rs 8.48 cut in petrol, Rs 4.67 in HSD prices ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday announced major reduction in prices of petroleum products including the cut of Rs 8.48 per litre in petrol, Rs 4.67 in high speed diesel, Rs 1.97 in light diesel and Rs 2.98 in high octane. The Prime Minister also announced to maintain the price of kerosene oil by rejecting a proposal of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for increasing the same by Rs 1.66 per litre. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in a statement, said Pakistan was the only country in the region which passed on the cut in petroleum prices to masses, whenever these are reduced in the international market...
