MQM withdraws Monday's strike call

KARACHI: Pulling in its horns, Muttahida Qaumi Movement late on Sunday night withdrew its call for a shutterdown strike in Karachi after Rangers, the paramilitary troops warned strict action against forced shutdown of businesses, transport, and educational institutes, Samaa reported. “Following DG Rangers Maj Gen Bilal Akbar’s assurance that he will see that the murderers of our worker Mohammad Hashim are dragged to the dock, we are taking our call back,” the MQM Rabita (Coordination) Committee said in an emergent statement. Rangers says no to MQM strike KARACHI: Making a tough statement, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) has nixed Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) strike-call by issuing a warning against 'forced shutdown' of businesses, schools, and transport in Sindh in general and Karachi in particular, Samaa reported. This statement comes minutes after the MQM announced to observe a day of mourning and a Sindh-wide shutterdown strike for Monday over a party worker, Mohammad Hashim's, alleged extrajudicial killing.
