We Are All Corrupt

There’s a huge hue and cry about corruption from last couple of weeks or may be months. Panama Leaks and other corruption scandals are making it to headlines on almost regular basis. A lot of talk shows are covering the issue of corruption to garner more ratings and not only this but people involved in it are being demanded to prove them innocent or face accountability. Time to time we hear names of different political figures, civil servants and other public office holders, police officers, judiciary members, businessmen and journalists involved in different corruption cases through electronic, print and social media.

National Accountability Bureau, the federal institute to combat corruption, with the help of government offices has printed message “Say No to Corruption” all across, aiming to spread awareness and call it “Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign”.

With all this in sight, I can’t stop thinking what every individual doing to combat corruption? I hate to say but we all are corrupt in our own ways. You are corrupt if you don’t return the extra money mistakenly paid back by the cashier or a shopkeeper, you are corrupt if  you don’t follow hygiene practices and  rules while manufacturing food items and play with the health of people, food inspection authorities not conducting raids is corruption, violating defined  traffic rules is corruption, using official vehicles for personal use is corruption, cheating in exams and allowing students to cheat is also corruption, fake medical bills is corruption, to write columns and favoring single party agenda is corruption, paid columns by journalists is also corruption, If power crises is a result of corruption then  “kunda” system is also corruption, lowering the speed of electricity meter is also corruption, if taking bribe is corruption then offering it is also corruption.
