Supreme Court to announce Panama verdict today

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will announce its verdict in Panama Papers case at 11:30 a.m. today (Friday). A three-member implementation bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan reserved its judgement in the case on 21st of this month. According to the cause list issued by the Supreme Court, the decision of the Panama Papers case will be announced by a larger bench comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan. It is the same bench, which heard the Panama Papers case and ordered formation of a Joint Investigation Team with majority decision on 20th April to further probe the matter. Somerset county club signs Fakhar Zaman

LAHORE: Pakistan’s opening batsman Fakhar Zaman will be playing for Somerset county club, Samaa reported. Zaman, who played a key role in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2017 win, has been recently drafted in this year’s edition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL). It is pertinent to mention that all Pakistani cricketers drafted in the Caribbean league have been issued No Objection Certification (NOC) but he has reportedly preferred to play English county. SC roster triggers debate on date of Panama case verdict

ISLAMABAD: The new schedule of Supreme Court judges for the week starting on July 31 has broached a debate as to when the much-awaited verdict of Panama Papers case will be announced. According to the roster, two out of the three judges – which heard the case – will not be available in Islamabad till 11th August. Justice Ijaz-Ul-Ahsan is going on leave from next week and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh will be hearing cases in Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry from Monday, whereas Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will be hearing other cases in Islamabad. SC reserves judgment in Panama Papers case ISLAMABAD: A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court reserved its judgment in Panama Papers case involving the offshore assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his children on Friday. The three-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal and including Justices Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Ijazul Ahsan reserved its judgment leaving the nation to wonder about the fate of the prime minister for at least a few days more. Earlier on Friday morning, the bench resumed its hearing into the high-profile Panama Papers case involving offshore assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his children. The bench is headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal. Other members are Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan. Salman Akram Raja, the lawyer of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz continued his arguments as the hearing begun. Panama Papers JIT to submit final report before SC today ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case will submit its final report to the special bench of Supreme Court (SC) today (July 10) as the term designated by the apex court for the JIT to complete the investigations has come to a close. The special implementation bench of the SC had formed the JIT to probe Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s alleged offshore wealth and charges of money laundering against the Sharif family. Earlier on Saturday, Nawaz Sharif held an advisory meeting with federal ministers and law experts to ponder over the course to be taken after the JIT submits its report on the findings of the Panama leaks investigations. Hassan Nawaz, Ishaq Dar to appear before JIT today

ISLAMABAD: Hassan Nawaz, son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will appear for the third time today before the investigators probing the corruption charges anchored in Panama Papers and trace the money trail of London flats and offshore companies owned by Sharif family. Hussain Nawaz will appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) tomorrow (Tuesday) and Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday (July 05). Meantime, the JIT has summoned Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar at 3pm today.  This is the first time the Finance Minister is appearing before JIT. According to the sources, the security has been beefed up for three days around Federal Judicial Academy —headquarter of the JIT sanctioned by Supreme Court of Pakistan.
