Ex news channel staffer among dacoits killed in Karachi KARACHI: Three alleged dacoits with one of them identified as a former news channel employee were killed fighting cops here on Wednesday, Samaa reported. “The road agents were stripping the citizens of their wallets, cash, mobile phones, etc. near Moti Mahal stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal when police surprised them with a shootout. The dacoits dropped dead after taking fatal hits,” our correspondent said. Senior police officers reached the encounter scene and lauded the valiant cops. “Talha, one the deceased dacoits , turned out to be a former news channel staffer. He was fired from the organization two years back after being found involved in criminal activities,” an official told Samaa. A bag full of booty was also recovered from the site.

46 Pakistanis confirmed dead in Mina; 53 still missing

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry for Religious Affairs has confirmed martyrdom of 46 Pakistani pilgrims in Mina stampede, with 53 said to be still missing five days after the incident, Samaa reported. According to information released on the ministry’s official website, 46 Pakistani pilgrims have been martyred while 40 others are injured. Their details have been issued on the website: www.hajjinfo.org According to the official data, at least 10 injured pilgrims are still under treatment in Al-Noor Specialist Hospital, King Faisal Al- Shisha Hospital, King Abdul Aziz (Al-Zahir) Hospital and Pakistan Hajj Medical Mission Hospital in Makkah. MQM withdraws Monday's strike call

KARACHI: Pulling in its horns, Muttahida Qaumi Movement late on Sunday night withdrew its call for a shutterdown strike in Karachi after Rangers, the paramilitary troops warned strict action against forced shutdown of businesses, transport, and educational institutes, Samaa reported. “Following DG Rangers Maj Gen Bilal Akbar’s assurance that he will see that the murderers of our worker Mohammad Hashim are dragged to the dock, we are taking our call back,” the MQM Rabita (Coordination) Committee said in an emergent statement.
