Chinese firm Xiaomi brings its smartphones to Pakistan

Image
Chinese gadget manufacturer Xiaomi announced today it’s launching in Pakistan – the world’s sixth-most populous country – after months of speculation and official denials. Xiaomi has expanded slowly since its 2011 debut in China, focusing mainly on Southeast Asia, India, parts of the Middle East, and Brazil. Its Pakistan entry is the largest since it ventured into Brazil mid-2015. Xiaomi’s coming to Pakistan through a distribution partnership – as it did in Brazil – with Rocket Internet’s ecommerce marketplace, Daraz, which is present in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. Jack Yung, Xiaomi’s sales director for South Asia, said three models will be available initially – the Mi Max, plus the budget Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A. There are also plans to sell the Mi Band 2, but the company is tight-lipped whether the full range of Xiaomi’s products will eventually reach the country. PSL 2017: Lahore Qalandars to take on Islamabad United today

Image
SHARJAH: Lahore Qalandars take on Islamabad United in the 14th match of the ongoing second season of Pakistan Super League in what will be the last group game in Sharjah on Monday. Brendon McCullum’s Lahore have been the most inconsistent side having not been able to stitch two consecutive wins so far. Their batting unit, which was bowled out for 59 by Peshawar Zalmi on 12 February, posted 200 on Thursday against Quetta Gladiators but on both occasions the team ended up on the losing side. England opener Jason Roy has been in good form for Lahore scoring two half-centuries in the five matches they have played but the rest of the batting unit has been unpredictable. Skipper McCullum’s poor form with the bat has hurt the team the most as the former New Zealand captain has not scored a run in their last three games, including two no-scores. However, Lahore will be heading into today’s game on a positive note as they have already beaten Islamabad in their early-season match. They wi

Pakistan vow to host PSL final despite Lahore blast

Image
DUBAI: Pakistani cricket officials have vowed to stage the final of their Twenty20 league in Lahore next month, despite a powerful Taliban suicide bomb blast which killed 13 people there this week. The first two rounds of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are being played in Dubai and Sharjah, but organisers had planned the March 5 final in the eastern Pakistani city, vowing “head of state security” for international players. However multiple Taliban suicide attacks in Pakistan this week, including Monday’s bomb in Lahore, put those plans in jeopardy. “We are committed to hosting the final in Lahore as our people want it there and it will be a step towards reviving international cricket,” PSL chairman Najam Sethi told AFP Thursday in Dubai. “VVIP security is ensured.” The violence-hit country has not hosted a high-profile foreign team since a 2009 gun and bomb attack on the Sri Lankan cricket side that killed eight people and injured nine others, including visiting players. Pakistani passport date extended till the “31st of Feb”

Image
This Pakistani passport holder was definitely trolled by the authorities for receiving an extension that can never exist. Here is a picture that proves the level of witlessness at our Passport Office. An extension of the Pakistani passport is made, mentioning a date that will never come into existence. The passport holder received a leeway till the 31 st  of February 2017, not keeping in mind that the month marks its end at the 28 th . Would it be safe to assume this as a human error? Or the people assigned to do this significant job are just not taking their errands very seriously.
